The Research Paper Project offers two sets of eight interactive PowerPoint modules for classroom (and individual student) use, following the specific efforts of students “Jamie” and “Pat” as they write a research paper.  “Writing the Research Paper” illustrates researching and writing of a sample paper on the topic "television and violence" and “Writing the Literary Research Paper” demonstrates the process of researching and writing a paper on “The Yellow Wallpaper and Symbolism,” using video clips, audio narrated PowerPoints and simulated procedures. An array of web resources and suggested activities help to reinforce the skills needed to write a research paper.

The modules included in both “Writing the Research Paper’ and “The Literary Research Paper”:

  1. Getting from Topic to Thesis

  2. Visiting the Library

  3. Revising the Thesis

  4. Taking Notes

  5. Creating a Works Cited Page

  6. Avoiding Plagiarism and Using Quotations

  7. Writing the First Draft

  8. Making Revisions

The complete project is available from the English Department Resource Envelope (EDRE). To request access to this project contact Dorothy Altman at the email address daltman@bergen.edu. Students can review these modules at their own pace from the Research Paper Project web site. If you have questions stop by the reference desk in the library.
